East China’s Shandong province has waived highway tolls for certain hydrogen-powered vehicles starting Friday as part of a broader plan to boost the state-backed industry, whose growth has been dragged down by high costs and a lack of fueling infrastructure.

The provincial transportation department announced Friday that tolls will be waived for cars equipped with electronic toll collection devices and traveling on Shandong’s highways, adding that the policy will first be implemented on a trial basis for two years, after which it will be “adjusted in a timely manner according to the implementation situation.”
