Newcastle United: Magpies still in race for Bournemouth ace Callum Wilson as Aston Villa have bid rejected - Aston Villa

Newcastle United are still in the race to sign Callum Wilson as Sky Sports have reported that Aston Villa have had a bid rejected for the Bournemouth striker.

According to the outlet, the bid was believed to be in the region of between £13m and £15m with significant add-ons as talks continue between the two teams.

The Tyneside club are reportedly expected to make their own offer for the 28-year-old but it seems as if they will have to pay out more than £15m in order to get his signature over the line in the current transfer window.

Steve Bruce apparently sees Wilson and his former Cherries teammate Ryan Fraser as his primary targets but only time will tell as to whether the Magpies can come up with acceptable deals for both players.

Should Newcastle start Wilson?

The former is allegedly keen on playing in the Premier League in 2020/21 following Bournemouth’s relegation from the top flight down at the end of last season, with Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United also interested in his services.

Indeed, Wilson is somewhat of a goal machine when looking at his statistics from his career thus far. In 250 matches at club level and for England’s under-21 and senior sides, the striker has scored a relatively impressive 92 goals, as per Transfermarkt, meaning that he finds the back of the net every two to three games on average.

Let us start with the 10th most expensive, how much was Jonjo Shelvey?

Wilson’s goal threat may well be priceless for the Toon going into the next campaign, and so Newcatle should seriously consider putting in a firm bid themselves in an attempt to try and sign the English international.
