Brighton & Hove Albion: Graham Potter plans to “keep looking” for new signings in transfer window
Brighton manager Graham Potter has hinted that he is pleased with the squad that he currently has at his disposal but has vowed to remain on the lookout for further signings in this transfer window.
The Seagulls have brought in five new players so far in the current window, although the manager is determined not to stop there.
As per Sussex Live, he told reporters at this morning’s press briefing: “While the window is open, you have a responsibility to keep looking, but my focus is on the group we have and I am pleased with what we have. I think we can improve and grow and get better, and that’s what we are trying to focus on.”
When asked specifically about the potential addition of strikers, Potter said: “Maybe the goals can come from within. You are always looking though and we will do so in that regard.”
Brighton yesterday confirmed Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke as their fifth signing of the current transfer window, following on from Ulrick Eneme Ella’s arrival on Wednesday, although the former is likely to be immediately sent out on loan for the season.
They are added to the earlier arrivals of teenager Jensen Weir from Wigan, Premier League and Champions League winner Adam Lallana from Liverpool on a free transfer and former Ajax defender Joel Veltman for a cut-price £900,000.
Brighton currently have 31 players in their first team squad and seem well-stocked in most areas, although Bernardo and Tariq Lamptey are their only two natural full-backs, while there is no obvious alternative to Alireza Jahanbakhsh on the right wing without playing someone out of their natural position. The Seagulls have also been on the lookout for a striker in recent weeks, having been linked with Alfredo Morelos and Odsonne Edouard of late, as well as unsuccessfully pursuing Darwin Nunez, who recently joined Benfica from Almeria.
While squad depth doesn’t seem to be a critical issue for Brighton in most positions, it is reassuring to hear that Potter remains on the lookout for potential new additions at the Amex Stadium.

They could certainly do with more full-back options, and with Neal Maupay the only player to score more than five goals for them last season, it comes as no great surprise that they are keen to enhance their firepower in the final third.
It seems like a case of ‘a lot done, more to do’ in terms of transfer activity at Brighton in this window.
