Coventry City: Mark Robins delighted with ‘terrific’ striker addition
Coventry City boss Mark Robins has revealed his delight at the signing of Tyler Walker from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, calling the youngster a ‘terrific talent’.
It has been a busy summer for the Sky Blues, following up their successful League One title win and automatic promotion to the Championship with a string of summer signings.
A whole host of players followed initial signing Gustavo Hamer into the club with the likes of Ryan Giles (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Leo Ostigard (Brighton and Hove Albion) coming in on one-year loan deals.
Walker, whose deal was announced via the club’s website on Friday, is a seventh new addition and leaves behind a long spell at Forest in the process.
The 23-year-old, who is the son of former Forest and England defender Des Walker, spent time away from the City Ground on several loan spells, but returned in January to bolster Sabri Lamouchi’s attacking line-up.
His return saw him arguably have his best moment in a Forest shirt, netting the second goal in a 2-0 win over eventual 2019/2020 Championship winners Leeds United.
Upon his arrival at Coventry, Sky Blues boss Robins told the club’s website: “We’re delighted to announce the signing of Tyler. He is a terrific talent, who we have been interested in for the last couple of years.
“As his goalscoring record shows, he’s a striker with great ability who really tests and stretches defences and is a fantastic signing for the Club.
“We’re really pleased to get this significant transfer completed, and are looking forward to working with him.”
A potential eighth summer signing has also emerged over the last few days with Manchester United midfielder James Garner linked to Coventry.
This signing could prove to be a superb one from Mark Robins. Tyler Walker certainly has talent and it is fair to say that he did not get given much of a chance at the City Ground. However in his loan spells he was generally prolific, indeed whilst at Mansfield Town he netted 26 times in 52 appearances and he then fired in 16 in 34 games for Lincoln City. Overall, he has 56 first team goals in 158 outings.
With a settled home, a good manager and a team around him that is youthful and wants to impress, Walker could very much prove to be the spearhead of a potentially exciting Coventry side.
