Coventry City: Stern competition arrives in James Garner race

Coventry City: Stern competition arrives in James Garner race - Championship News

Coventry City will face stiff competition from a whole host of Championship sides as they look to bring James Garner in this summer.

After a title winning League One season which ended in automatic promotion to the Championship, Sky Blues boss Mark Robins has been actively busy in trying to bolster his squad options ahead of the new season.

The likes of Gustavo Hamer, Julien Dacosta and Callum O’Hare have all come in and it now looks like the Sky Blues boss is set to make a move for another talented young player.

19-year-old Man United youngster Garner has emerged as a potential arrival after being highly regarded as one of the brightest talents at Old Trafford.

Having made seven first-team appearances thus far for the Red Devils, Garner is now said to be available on a season-long loan deal in a bid for him to receive more senior football and experience.

Whilst Coventry have been linked both by Football Insider and Coventry LIVE, it is now claimed by the latter who cite a report from The Sun, that a whole host of Championship clubs have now shown interest.

Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday, are all said to be keen on the midfielder.

A potential move for Garner would see Robins stretch his new arrivals to no less than eight players after signing Leo Ostigard from Brighton and Hove Albion on loan and Tyler Walker from Nottingham Forest came in.

Garner certainly has plenty of potential with the Premier League club holding him in high regard, whilst he has also represented England’s under-19 side five times, scoring three goals.

But he has to choose his loan club carefully, taking into account where he will get the most playing time and opportunity to thrive.

Coventry have a good record over the last 12 months in doing that, having had Callum O’Hare on loan from Aston Villa last season – he excelled with three goals and four assists under Robins.

The Sky Blues then, could prove to be the perfect place for Garner to take his football to the next level.
