Celtic: Boyata replacement can be found in Terriers’ Zanka
Celtic supporters may have got used to seeing the best domestic football that Scotland has to offer, but signing top players isn’t easy, and they often resort to loan moves. This time, though, it looks different as the Bhoys are being linked with a permanent move for a relegated Premier League star.
The man in question plied his trade for Huddersfield Town last season, and for the most part, he was one of their best players. Despite being a central defender, Mathias Jorgensen, more commonly known as Zanka, finished with three goals for the Terriers, making him their joint 2nd highest-goalscorer alongside Aaron Mooy, FPL.
The Danish defender can be forgiven for looking to move on from Huddersfield after their relegation, and conveniently these links to Celtic have surfaced in The Daily Record, as the 29-year-old is being eyed up as a potential Dedryck Boyata replacement seeing as the Belgian has left Glasgow for Berlin, BBC.
Neil Lennon will need to sort his defensive options out as soon as possible this summer and start building ahead of the 2019/20 season with his backline the priority as Boyata and Mikael Lustig have left. Back in May, former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers claimed, via The Daily Record, that he’d allow Filip Benkovic to return to Parkhead on loan, but they’ll still need another central defender.
That’s exactly where Zanka would fit. The Huddersfield man may have endured the season from hell in terms of finishing 20th and suffering the drop, but from a personal standpoint, he finished the season as the Terriers’ 2nd best player, according to WhoScored.
It’s just now whether or not the Bhoys opt to pursue the relegated Danish defender or if they focus on bringing in a different target. Either way, you’d trust that someone will come in, it’s just whether they can attract someone of the £4.5m rated ace’s calibre who has experience at the top level or not, valuation by Transfermarkt.
