When Huddersfield Town revealed that they had completed the signing of Adama Diakhaby from AS Monaco last year, their supporters had every right to be positive about the move.
Having made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side during the 2017/18 campaign, it was seen as somewhat of a coup at the time for the Terriers to seal a deal for the forward.
A fantastic young talent with an eye for goal, Diakhaby seemingly had all the ingredients needed to become a modern hero at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Therefore, when the club announced his arrival on Twitter, it was not at all surprising that loads of Huddersfield fans reacted excitedly to the news.

Considering the fact that the Terriers shelved out a fee reported to be in the region of £9m (via Transfermarkt) for the forward, the pressure was on him to deliver from the very outset.
Yet despite featuring in the first six Premier League games of the season, Diakhaby struggled to have any influence for his new side and was subsequently dropped for the club’s home clash with Tottenham Hotspur in September.
Although he would make a brief cameo appearance against Liverpool one month later, then-boss David Wagner had seen enough of the 22-year-old and refused to play him in the next 13 top-flight fixtures.
However, when the American decided to leave his role at Huddersfield, Diakhaby was given another chance to prove himself by Jan Siewert who handed him starts against the likes of Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea.
During these three clashes, the forward did show glimpses of what he is capable of but ultimately failed to leave a lasting impression on his new boss as he was consigned to substitute appearances over the next three months.
With the Terriers facing a season in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League, Diakhaby’s future now looks very uncertain.
Whereas it could be argued that he has the kind of attributes that could make him a threat in the second tier, when you consider that he is still yet to score in English football, it may be worth Siewert trying to offload the former Monaco ace this summer.
