Luton fans take to Twitter in jubilation after ending 12-year absence from the Championship
Luton fans would all have been on the edge of their seats last night. Whilst the world tuned in to watch Tottenham fall at home to Ajax, the Hatters were fixated on the League One fixtures as Sunderland went to Fleetwood whilst Portsmouth hosted Peterborough, the right results would see them promoted, and they ended the evening celebrating.

Kenilworth Road may not be around for much longer, with Power Court recently being approved by Luton council, but it’s fitting that in the famous old ground’s final years they will once again host Championship football. Winning promotion to the second-tier of English football is a serious achievement, but to do it on the budget Luton have in their first season back in League One is phenomenal.
What happens over the next couple of months is going to so important for the Bedfordshire club. You can guarantee that when the season starts in August the Hatters will have fans trekking all over the country to follow their side, but until then they have some business to attend to. Mick Harford, the legend he is amongst Luton fans, has made it clear he won’t take the permanent job, so a new manager will need to be found, but at the moment the fans are still high on the promotion elation.
