Swansea: Fans stick the boot into Jake Bidwell after defeat to Brentford
Swansea defender Jake Bidwell had a night to forget against former club Brentford on Tuesday, scoring an own goal as the home side fell to a 0-3 defeat against the Bees at the Liberty Stadium, as per BBC.
The result maintains the Swans’ miserable home form, with only one point out of a possible 12 on their own patch, and saw them drop to seventh in the Championship. [via BBC]
Brentford were already a goal to the good when Bidwell diverted the ball beyond Swansea goalkeeper Freddie Woodman in the 36th minute to widen the gap, with Bryan Mbeumo rounding off a comprehensive victory for the visitors shortly before the hour mark. [via BBC]
The 26-year-old Swansea left-back has been a regular in the team this season, with his appearance in the team last night his 10th start in the Championship in 2019/20, but he has endured a difficult few weeks after being sent off against Bristol City last month and missing two subsequent matches through suspension prior to his unfortunate intervention last night.
These Swansea fans on Twitter did not hold back in their criticism of Bidwell’s performance against Brentford:
How many RTs for us to put a restraining order against Jake Bidwell being within 20m of anybody at the club?

I feel for our defensive line having to play with Bidwell, seriously get him out, he’s beyond worthless as a player, this is not an isolated incident. No effort mostly aside from Peterson and Ayew, Deserved to lose that, last time we played that awful it was under Bob Bradley.

Drop Bidwell x

The most gutless performance I’ve seen from the swans for a very longtime. Bidwell didn’t break a jog, if Connor Roberts wasn’t a local lad he’d be hung to try

I’d take a one legged Neil Taylor over Jake Bidwell, that’s how bad he is. #Swans
