Swansea: Kristoffer Nordfeldt says he’s unhappy at the club and willing to move away

Swansea goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt has said he is unhappy with his lack of game time at the club and is willing to leave in the near future.

Speaking to Swedish publication Fötbollskanalen while on national team duty this week [via Sport Witness], the 30-year-old revealed his discontent with his current situation and said that he is open to moving to any club with a philosophy that suits him.

The 10-cap Sweden international told Fötbollskanalen [via Sport Witness]: “It’s up to Swansea, but I’m not happy and I don’t suppose they think it’s good that I’m sitting where I’m sitting either, if you can put it like that.

“I’m open to most things. I have no preference about where my next club is. It’s more about being at a club that shares the playing philosophy I think suits me.”

Nordfeldt, who has been at Swansea since 2015 and made 46 appearances for the club, had a sustained run in the first team last season but has yet to play in the Championship this term, with Freddie Woodman the preferred option in goal for Steve Cooper.

The England under-21 ‘keeper, who is on loan from Newcastle, has conceded just seven goals in his first 10 games for the club (0.7 per game) and recorded four clean sheets (40% of games), his impressive form between the sticks helping the Swans to fourth in the table going into the October international break.

Nordfeldt has conceded three goals in as many Carabao Cup appearances this season, with one clean sheet, and let in 36 goals in his 25 appearances last term (1.44 per game), while achieving only six shutouts (24% of games).

The Swede has not even made the bench for Swansea’s last three Championship matches, having again been omitted from the matchday squad in last weekend’s defeat to Stoke.

Having failed to get a sustained run of games in the Swansea team until last season, and having fallen out of favour again since then, it’s understandable why Nordfeldt feels frustrated at being consistently overlooked.

However, with the Swede’s concession rate for last season more than double that of Woodman’s in 2019/20, and with the on-loan 22-year-old having a much better clean sheet ratio, Cooper will almost certainly stick with the latter as his first-choice goalkeeper.

Nordfeldt wants to leave and Swansea have a ‘keeper who is showing better form than him, so a parting of ways may be mutually beneficial come January, unless things change drastically before then.
