Sheffield United: Blades keen on signing Swansea City's Joe Rodon - Premier League

Sheffield United could be set to strengthen their ranks with a January move for Swansea City defender, Joe Rodon.

The 22-year-old has been one of the top performers for the Championship outfit in recent times and with the Blades flying high in the Premier League, Chris Wilder could be ready to strengthen the ranks further in the winter window.

A report from the Sun on Sunday (Print edition, Sunday 27th October), claims that United are willing to splash the cash on Rodon, with the report claiming he could cost a similar fee to that which saw Oli McBurnie arrive at the club in the summer.

The defender has become an integral part of the set-up at the Liberty Stadium under Steve Cooper. However, despite a positive start to the campaign, the Swans are slipping down the Championship table and now find themselves outside the automatic promotion spots.

The right-back has appeared in every game this season and boasts impressive stats when it comes getting the ball clear from his defence, with 4.5 clearances per game this term.

Swansea would no doubt be reluctant to sell one of their better players but will be well aware that Premier League money can often talk, much like it did with McBurnie in the summer.

Rodon would have to be considered a solid signing for United, but there has to be a question over the need for him.

George Baldock appears to be in the form of his life at wing-back for the Blades so it’s hard to see the 22-year-old replacing him with any immediate effect, should they bring him to Bramall Lane.

The Blades do have money to spend but aren’t flush like many top-level clubs. Spending a sum of around £20m on a player who might not even get in the first XI is something which many fans would struggle to understand.
