Watford Loan Watch: Jerome Sinclair benched again, Ken Sema and Adalberto Penaranda involved in wins, more goals for Luis Javier Suarez
In our Loan Watch feature, the Transfer Tavern takes a look at how a selection of players from a particular club are doing whilst they are away from their home and provide a brief update regarding their progress.
In this week’s edition of loan watch, we’re having another look at Watford’s players to see how they’re getting on.
So far in the series, we have taken a look at Ken Sema, Jerome Sinclair, Ben Wilmot, Adalberto Penaranda, Luis Javier Suarez Charris and Cucho Hernandez, and we will continue to update their progress in this article. However, due to Hernandez’s injury which has still prevented him from making his debut for Mallorca and Wilmot still not making his way into the side, we have left these two out in the round-up.
KEN SEMA
Ken Sema has continued to feature for Udinese, now playing every match the Italian side has had this season. In fact, the only game he hasn’t started was the opener versus AC Milan, and he had only been there a few days at that stage.
This week, Sema played a full 90 minutes in an important win for his side. Sema this week played at right-midfield in a 3-5-2 for the Pozzo-owned team, having an impressive rating of 6.9/10 as Udinese racked up a vital three points to boost them to 12th in the table.
Encouragingly for Watford fans, he managed to play on the opposite flank to his other six matches versus Bologna, having the trust of his coach for the whole 90 minutes and showing some more impressive versatility.
JEROME SINCLAIR
Sinclair hadn’t had the best of starts at VVV-Venlo, and in all honesty, it’s not getting any better.
He began the season starting games upfront for the club but now finds himself as a substitute option on the wing for the Dutch outfit. This week, he played 45 minutes after coming on from the bench against Heerenveen. Unfortunately, it was another lacklustre performance according to WhoScored, with him scoring just a 5.9 for his efforts at left wing.
VVV-Venlo currently sit in 12th position.
ADALBERTO PENARANDA
Penaranda, 22, has continued to play for Eupen in the Belgian Jupiler League, and this week came up against Cercle Brugge.
Having played his previous two games on the right wing, he played this one at left midfield, according to TransferMarkt. He managed to play 87 minutes before being pulled, helping his side to an important 2-1 win away from home. Eupen are currently 15th in the table after nine games.
LUIS SUAREZ
Suarez has continued his brilliant start in La Liga 2 with Real Zaragoza, this week bagging twice against Real Oviedo in their 2-2 draw away from home.
The 21-year-old forward lined up as striker again for his side, once more putting in a great performance. In his seven appearances in the league so far, he has six goals and an assist, averaging one goal contribution per match and helping his side to third in the league.
VERDICT
It’s been a pretty mixed bag for Watford again this week.
Suarez looks some player at La Liga 2 level and is proving to be some great business by Real Zaragoza. Elsewhere, Sema looks to have settled nicely at Udinese and is playing regularly each week, which is only going to improve the Swede.
The rest have been a little underwhelming; Penaranda is still fairly fresh-faced in Belgium so may take a bit of time, but Jerome Sinclair is really disappointing in the Eredivisie and looks to have fallen down the pecking order. Similarly, Wilmot would have liked to have actually played by now in the league, but Swansea’s great start might be keeping him out for longer.
