Ipswich: Fans unhappy with Paul Lambert’s tactical setup after defeat to Rotherham
Ipswich were knocked off the top of League One last night after a 0-2 home defeat to Rotherham, their second loss in four days following the same scoreline against Accrington Stanley last weekend.
Their official Twitter account @IpswichTown tweeted the full-time score, which included an image detailing that Matt Crooks scored both goals for the visitors at Portman Road.

Paul Lambert’s team had won eight of their first 11 league games this season and drawn the other three prior to Sunday, but two consecutive defeats have seen them relinquish top spot to Peterborough after Darren Ferguson’s side thrashed Accrington 4-0 last night to move to the summit on goal difference, as per Sky Sports.
Ipswich lined up in a 4-1-3-2 formation against the Millers, with Lambert deviating from the 3-4-1-2 that he had been using in recent matches.
These Ipswich fans on Twitter were critical of the manager’s tactical setup against Rotherham and many called for him to revert to the 4-4-2 which brought the Tractor Boys multiple wins earlier in the season:
Absolutely dreadful. Two shocking performances in a row.. when will Lambert realise that 4-4-2 is the better way?!

All the unnecessary rotation needs to stop now. Find a system (442) and get a core 8/9 players that will play every week. Not just a win needed Saturday but a convincing performance too. Still joint top with a game in hand but need to prove that we’re worthy of automatic spots.

I hope PL doesn’t turn into one of those managers that insists on playing a formation that just isn’t working. He has done great things here but can’t seem to see 442 is the way forward.

We have the players for 4-4-2, but PL seems to insist on 3-5-2 to accommodate players instead of playing his best team.

Stop messing with formation Use your best players always stop squad rotation to keep everyone happy pic.twitter.com/z86ZpP8JC0

Such a poor showing! Players had no idea what they were doing, no idea what the formation/tactics were, no communication, no one made anything off the ball. & to top it off… Officiating was absolutely appalling

Do you think Lambert should revert to a conventional 4-4-2 from now on? Share your views in the comments section below!
