Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, Berlin, Germany - October 30, 2022. Borussia Monchengladbach's Marcus Thuram.

Aston Villa have made contact to sign Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in January, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Thuram attracting interest

The Frenchman has recently been in Qatar, having represented his nation at the World Cup, and his performances in the latter stages of the tournament appear to have caught the eye of multiple potential suitors.

The striker’s contract with Daniel Farke’s side is set to expire at the end of the season, so the winter market will be his club’s last opportunity to cash in, and there’s a strong chance that the 25-year-old could be on his way to the Premier League.

The Latest: Villa make contact over Thuram

According to 90min, NSWE have ‘spoken’ to Thuram’s representatives regarding a potential move to Villa Park, but they are set to face competition from top-flight rivals Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle, along with Inter Milan from Serie A.

The France striker has ‘already confirmed’ that he won’t be extending his stay at Monchengladbach, with the Bundesliga giants duly ‘asking’ for just £10m to secure his services.

The Verdict: Get it done…

Thuram has been dubbed a ‘phenomenon’ by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, and looking at his numbers, Villa splashing the cash in the New Year should be a no-brainer of a decision.

The 6 foot 2 attacker would provide a different dimension up top with his height while also offering a threat in the final third, having scored ten goals and provided three assists in just 15 league appearances this season (WhoScored).

Unai Emery will be looking to secure a top-half finish during his first campaign at the Villa Park helm, and the addition of Thuram would surely help the 51-year-old greatly in pursuit of that goal.
