Wolves: Crooks gives Tariq Lampety transfer claim

Wolves: Crooks gives Tariq Lampety transfer claim - Follow up

TalkSport reporter Alex Crook has claimed there’s ‘nothing’ in the links with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tariq Lamptey.

The Lowdown: Wolves want Lampety on loan

A recent report has claimed that Julen Lopetegui’s side were interested in taking the Premier League full-back on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Athletic wrote a few days ago that Sporting Lisbon also wanted to sign Lamptey on loan, due to the fact they could be selling Pedro Porro to Tottenham Hotspur.

So far this season the 22-year-old has played 16 league matches for the Seagulls, but only one of these appearances has been from the start.

The Latest: Crook downplays links

Crook said that Lamptey will not be making the move to Molineux this month when speaking to GiveMeSport, for now, Wolves are happy to stick with Nelson Semedo.

He stated, “I’m terms of a right-back for Wolves, I’m told there’s nothing in the links to Tariq Lamptey. I think long-term they’d want to replace Nelson Semedo, who’d probably move on, but I don’t think that’s a priority for this window.”

The Verdict: Lamptey’s got potential

We believe that despite his lack of appearances, Lamptey is still someone who could go on to be a top talent, as he’s only 22-years-old.

His former boss Graham Potter heaped praise on him back in 2020 for his performance against Newcastle United, as the now Chelsea boss labelled Lamptey as ‘amazing’ and ‘refreshing’ to work with off the pitch, as quoted by BBC Sport.

Wolves are short of players in the right-back position, with the only traditional player in that area being Nelson Semedo. Adding Lamptey into their ranks could’ve given the Old Gold an alternative option off the bench or from the start should Semedo want to be rested by Lopetegui.

The club currently finds itself just outside of the bottom three, with relegation still a possibility at the end of the season.

Lamptey would be a strong signing to make in the Championship, should they be able to agree a fee next summer. He clearly has a great attitude and work ethic, as well as international experience with Ghana.

We think that Wolves should keep an eye on the Seagulls full-back, even if a move this month won’t happen, he could add to their ranks next season whether they’re in the Premier League or the Championship.
