Burnley: Mitchelmore makes Obfaemi attitude claim - Burnley News

Wales Online journalist Ian Mitchelmore has given his verdict on the attitude of Swansea City’s Michael Obafemi, who’s set to join Championship side Burnley.

The Lowdown: Obafemi set to join Clarets

BBC Sport recently reported that the forward is set to join Vincent Kompany’s side on loan and a deal will be made permanent in the summer, the fee is claimed to be £3 million for Obafemi’s services.

The Irish striker has played 19 times in the league so far this season, netting on three occasions and producing one assist.

Swansea signed the 22-year-old from Southampton in the summer of 2021 on a three-year deal.

The Latest: Attitude concerns

Mitchelmore spoke to Lancs Live about the player and suggested there could be potential attitude concerns from his time with Swansea and Southampton.

He stated, “Given the concerns from his time at both Southampton and Swansea, there are clearly issues to be wary of.

“But, with Vincent Kompany and Craig Bellamy on the coaching staff, you’d certainly think any nonsense would not be tolerated at Turf Moor.

“It’s a move Obafemi desperately wanted, and the chance to play at a top Championship club who are destined for a Premier League return could be what truly helps the striker to ignite his career.

“You’d both hope and expect the 22-year-old to knuckle down again and do all in his power to prove his doubters wrong.”

The Verdict: A new chapter

We believe that Obafemi deserves a chance at a clean slate when he joins the Clarets. Afterall, he’s still young in his development.

Current Swans boss Russell Martin has spoken of him highly in the past, stating the Obafemi will be ‘incredible’ as quoted by Wales Online.

The arrival of the Irish forward will give Kompany a boost to his options upfront, as he knows the Championship very well and has a decent amount of experience in the Premier League.

This season the Clarets have brought in a number of young players throughout the course of the 2022/23 campaign and it’s certainly paid off for them.

A move to Turf Moor is probably the best option for Obafemi, as we believe that if anyone is to get the best out of him, it’ll be Kompany, a manager who isn’t afraid to play young talent.
