Leeds United: Lone Championship club ready to sign Barry Douglas - Championship Transfer Rumours

Championship side Watford are the only club remaining in the race to sign Leeds United defender Barry Douglas, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa worked hard over the summer just gone to bolster his squad options, whilst the Argentine has also allowed certain players to move on.

Gaetano Berardi saw his time at Leeds come to an end this summer, and it is now looking extremely likely that Douglas will follow suit and call an end to his career at Elland Road.

With the domestic transfer window open until Friday October 16th, speculation has developed regarding the Scottish defender’s future, prompting a whole host of clubs to show interest, including Blackburn Rovers.

Watford now favourites to sign Douglas

With those rumours developing, Football Insider claimed that Watford were also keen, reporting that the left-back has been offered a contract to move to Vicarage Road.

The former Premier League club now appear to be the only team left in the race to sign Douglas with Nixon claiming that Blackburn have cooled their interest.

Douglas is now likely to end his Leeds career having played 44 times in Yorkshire, previously having spells with the likes of Wolves and Lech Poznan before his £3m switch to the Whites.

Wise decision for Douglas to move on

Douglas has very little chance of playing for Leeds this season, mainly due to excellent form of Stuart Dallas at left-back.

Aside from Dallas, Marcelo Bielsa have the likes of Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Robin Koch, and of course Ezgjan Alioski, who have all been performing well over pre-season and in the Premier League.

An exit from the club would be the best decision for Douglas to make and if that means a move to Watford, who could mount a promotion push in the Championship, Douglas could be a big part of getting another team promoted back to the big time.
