Leeds United: Barry Douglas tipped to join Watford

Leeds United: Barry Douglas tipped to join Watford - Leeds United

Leeds United defender Barry Douglas has been tipped to join Championship side Watford by former Whites midfielder Michael Brown.

With a whole host of new faces coming in through the doors at Elland Road, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has also allowed players to move on.

The likes of Gaetano Berardi saw his contract come to an end this summer, and it is now appearing likely that Douglas will follow suit and call time on his Whites career.

With the domestic transfer window open until next Friday (16/10), speculation is rapidly developing over the future of the Scottish defender, prompting the likes of Blackburn Rovers to be linked with a move.

Joining Blackburn with interest are said to be Watford with Football Insider claiming the defender has been offered a deal to move to Vicarage Road.

Brown believes Watford move would be good for Douglas

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Elland Road man Brown said moving to Watford would be a good switch, saying: “You just need to play, the longer you don’t play, it’s so hard – that’s the key. That area, I think, is still open to be taken, but he doesn’t seem to be grabbing it, you know?

“I think if you can go and play at one of the favourites in the Championship – he didn’t play too much last season, did he – so I think that it’d be a good move.”

Douglas featured 44 times in Yorkshire, having previously had spells with the likes of Wolves and Lech Poznan before his £3m switch from Molineux.

Have Leeds got enough cover if Douglas leaves?

The chances of Douglas playing for Leeds this season in the Premier League are seemingly hard to come by, especially after the excellent form of Stuart Dallas at left-back.

Aside from Dallas, the Yorkshire side have the likes of Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Robin Koch, and of course Ezgjan Alioski, who have all been performing well of late.

An exit from the club would prove the best move for Douglas and Watford would be a good place to go, especially if they are to mount a promotion challenge.
