Portsmouth: Fifth summer signing discusses Fratton Park move

Portsmouth: Fifth summer signing discusses Fratton Park move - League One News

New Portsmouth signing Rasmus Nicolaisen has discussed his move to the club having signed a season long loan deal.

The Danish defender arrives at Fratton Park as Kenny Jackett’s fifth summer arrival, following the likes of Cameron Pring, Callum Johnson, Michael Jacobs and Sean Raggett into the club.

The Pompey boss has worked hard to bring in some new arrivals, given that financial constraints are causing problems amongst English Football League sides at present.

Nicolaisen, who is valued at £540k, arrives on the back of a Danish Cup and Danish Superliga win with FC Midtyjlland, will wait for international clearance before his deal is formally completed.

Discussing his move to England, the young defender discussed his ambitions via the club’s official website.

“English football is very attractive for me and I’m looking forward to the time when I can play in front of the fans here. I hope to meet them soon.

“I’m a defender and like to play with power. My greatest skills are my headers and duels, while I have a lot of strength.

“There is a good defence here, so I hope I can get into the side and show what kind of player I am. I’m looking forward to meeting up with the rest of the squad.

“This is a new adventure for me and my family – I have a wife and a kid who will come over. It’s great to get out of my comfort zone and try something new.

“The ambitions are high at this club and I’m also a guy with big ambitions, so I think it’s a good mix for us.

“It would be nice if we could win promotion this season and that’s certainly what we are all aiming for.”

Portsmouth have thus far kept two clean sheets in their opening League One games, failing to score, however, in 0-0 draws against Shrewsbury Town and Rochdale.

Kenny Jackett has done well to improve his side’s defensive areas but fans will be wondering if any attacking players will arrive to freshen up what is looking like a struggling frontline.

Nicolaisen will provide adequate competition for Jackett’s defence, and with his youth and ambitious words, who knows, the club could have a real talent on their hands.
