Sheffield Wednesday: Fisayo Dele-Bashiru linked with exit - League One News

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru could be set to leave Hillsborough amid transfer interest, according to reports.

The Lowdown: New deal not signed

The Hamburg-born talent made the move to the League One club from Manchester City’s academy in 2020 and has since gone on to become a regular presence under Darren Moore, featuring 71 times for the Owls.

However, the 21-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season, and having not yet put pen to paper on fresh terms, several high-profile clubs from across Europe – including some former continental champions – have been alerted to his situation and are ready to battle it out for his signature.

The Latest: Dele-Bashiru to leave?

According to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre on Monday, the quartet of AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, Besiktas and Antalyaspor are all ‘interested’ in signing Dele-Bashiru, alongside a ‘number’ of clubs across the Premier League and Championship.

The Owls reportedly ‘want him to extend’ his stay at Hillsborough, but the starlet is keen to ‘assess all his options’ before deciding where the next stage of his career lies.

The Verdict: Keep hold of him

Dele-Bashiru has been dubbed ‘tremendous’ by Joe Crann, and considering the positive impact he has had in the final third, Wednesday need to do everything that they can to retain his services.

The 21-year-old has already contributed five goals and three assists across all competitions this season and is currently averaging 1.1 shots per 90 minutes in League One.

The second-placed Owls are now strong contenders to secure automatic promotion to the Championship, and there seems no doubt that Dele-Bashiru would significantly help them to achieve their goal should he commit himself to a new contract at Hillsborough.
