Sheffield Wednesday: Callum Paterson being monitored by Hearts - League One News

Sheffield Wednesday striker Callum Paterson is being monitored by Hearts ahead of January, according to reports in the last 48 hours.

The Lowdown: Uncertain future

The League One talisman has been a regular feature under Darren Moore this season, but with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, his future is currently up in the air.

The Scotland international began his career at Tynecastle Park, and after being alerted to his situation, the 28-year-old could be set to make a return to his boyhood club in 2023.

The Latest: Hearts eyeing Paterson

According to Football Scotland, Hearts are ‘exploring the possibility’ of bringing Paterson back next year, with his name already having ‘been floated’ around in discussions.

The Owls forward has ‘come up in conversation’ in Jambos recruitment circles, though ‘no firm offer’ is yet to have been made ahead of a potential move.

The Verdict: Don’t let him go

Paterson has previously been dubbed ‘irreplaceable’ by Neil Warnock, and we feel Wednesday must do everything they can to keep hold of him.

The London-born attacker has netted 18 goals and provided seven assists during his time at Hillsborough and is a useful option to have with the versatility to operate in three different positions (Transfermarkt).

The Yorkshire outfit could find it difficult to try and convince him to turn down a switch to a club he holds so close to his heart, so if they want to maintain his services, fresh terms need to be tabled before it’s too late.
