Chelsea History

In an upstairs room at the Rising Sun pub in 1905, Chelsea FC was formed. Millionaire owner Henry Augustus ‘Gus’ Mears was among his family members as they also became founding directors of the Blues.

Stamford Bridge is one of the oldest football stadiums in England, and it has been the home of Chelsea FC since their formation in 1905. It originally opened as a sporting arena in 1877 where it was used by the London Athletic Club as they hosted many athletics tournaments. Chelsea are one of the most successful football clubs in England. They have six league titles, and they last lifted the Premier League trophy in 2017. In addition to the league, Chelsea hold third place for the most FA Cup victories – eight, and also have an impressive five League Cup wins.

Despite great domestic success, the greatest moment in the club’s history is their 2012 Champions League victory against Bayern Munich in their own back garden. Former Captain and legend, Frank Lampard, is the clubs all time top goal-scorer. The midfielder bagged himself 210 goals in 648 games. Lampard, who led Chelsea to Champions League triumph in 2012, has recently returned to the club as a manager.
