Development banks – national, regional, international and multilateral - represent major providers of public finance for sustainable development. They play a fundamental role in directing capital towards sustainable investments by demonstrating the opportunities and potential returns, and by reducing the risks associated with them. What are the critical operational, financial, and governance obstacles facing multilateral development banks (MDB) today? How will development banks improve their practices to explore new ways to maximize the potential of the MDB model for development in general and infrastructure in particular?

Panel Discussion - China: Economic Growth and Opening-up

China is committed to further opening up its financial market, specifically regarding the banking, insurance, and securities and asset management sectors. Meanwhile, factors that influence financial market stability also are on the rise. Amid China’s economic slowdown, the government needs the private sector now more than ever and has undertaken a slew of measures to support the private sector, including tax breaks, mixed-ownership reform and incentives for banks and bond investors to lend to the companies. How do China’s new moves in financial sector impact its foreign exchange rates, interest rates, capital flows, equity markets and, by extension, the decisions made by global central banks? How will China create a level playing field between foreign and domestic operators and enterprises in the Chinese market? How should Chinese companies do businesses and invest overseas amid rising protectionism and populism?
