Celtic: Aaron Mooy praised for 'quality' performance vs St. Johnstone - Celtic News

Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy has been praised for his ‘quality’ performance during Sunday’s Scottish Premiership game vs St. Johnstone by journalist Josh Bunting.

The Lowdown: Five-goal thriller

The Hoops were the visitors at the McDiarmid Park as Ange Postecoglou’s side secured an emphatic 4-1 victory over their opponents, with goals coming from the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, David Turnbull and Mooy.

The Australian international was on the scoresheet for the sixth time this season in all competitions as he continued his impressive start to life in green and white, but it was his all-round display in Perth that really caught the eye.

The Latest: Bunting’s reaction

Taking to Twitter, Bunting couldn’t speak highly enough of Mooy’s showing and insisted that he was the key cog for Celtic. He wrote:

“Another convincing and comfortable victory for Celtic. Aaron Mooy really showing his quality yet again, he made the champions tick, a goal to go with his performance but he controlled the middle of the park. Ruthless and well organised performance on a difficult pitch, weren’t phased.”

Mooy was indeed Sofascore’s highest-rated player on the pitch, completing 75% of his long balls, winning 100% of his duels and registering one tackle and interception apiece.

Celtic fans, do you remember who Ange's first Hoops signing was?

The Verdict: Perfect addition

Celtic only signed Mooy on a free transfer last summer so he’s still in his debut season, but he’s proven to be the perfect reinforcement since putting pen to paper.

The 32-year-old has posted 12 goal contributions in 32 appearances across all competitions this term and has shown his versatility having operated in both central and defensive midfield (Transfermarkt).

The Bhoys star has also picked up two man-of-the-match awards as recognition for his efforts and he will undoubtedly continue to be an essential player for Postecoglou as he looks to secure a second consecutive league title.
