Manchester City: Pep Guardiola backed to sign new deal
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will put pen to paper on a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, according to former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
The Lowdown: Guardiola’s contract at Man City
After coming to Manchester in 2016, the 51-year-old is set to see his current contract with the Citizens expire at the end of June 2023.
With the manager revealing that he will speak to the club’s hierarchy over the possibility of him signing a new deal at the appropriate time, it seems that there has been no clear indication over whether or not the Spaniard will be in charge of the club next season.
However, one man appears to be rather sure over what the future will hold for the City boss.
The Latest: Guardiola backed to sign new deal
Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson has backed Guardiola to continue his journey with the Premier League champions beyond this season when asked if a new deal would be a likely outcome.
The 43-year-old said: “100 per cent. I cannot see anything but. He still has so much unfinished business at Manchester City.
“He was brought in to win the Champions League and I cannot see him leaving until that itch has been scratched. They win domestic trophies week in, week out but they have not got the holy grail. Until he wins that, I cannot see him leaving.
“That is why I do not think there is any doubt about his future. Guardiola has earned the right to stay at City as long as he wants.”

With Robinson highlighting how important winning the Champions League seemingly is for Guardiola and City, having yet to lift that particular trophy, it appears that this has overshadowed the numerous domestic trophies that the Sky Blues have won under the 51-year-old and how many records they broke in doing so.

Given how successful the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has been in Manchester, it would make sense for them to do all that they can to keep hold of Guardiola for as long as possible.
Regardless of which trophies the Citizens do or do not win this season, seeing the 51-year-old sign a new contract should be the club’s main priority.
