Everton: Mauricio Pochettino eyeing return to England

Everton: Mauricio Pochettino eyeing return to England - Everton News

Former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on a return to England, with Everton named as a possible destination.

The Lowdown: Lampard out?

It seems likely that Frank Lampard will soon be removed as Blues boss, following the abysmal 4-1 defeat at home to Brighton in the Premier League.

The loss leaves Everton hovering dangerously above the relegation zone and it feels like the right time to make a managerial change, with results getting worse by the week and January the perfect chance for a new boss to make some changes.

It is of course vital that the club makes the right appointment if the former Chelsea legend does depart however, with Wayne Rooney one of those to emerge as a contender for the job.

The Latest: Pochettino in the mix?

According to The Express, Pochettino is another name who could potentially come in, as the Argentine is ‘desperate’ to make a return to Premier League football.

The 50-year-old most recently managed Paris Saint-Germain but was sacked at the end of last season, and now wants to return to England to prove himself once more, with the Blues name-checked as a possibility in the report.

The Verdict: Proven quality

While Rooney would be the romantic choice in many ways, given his lifelong ties to Everton, Pochettino could prove to be the more sensible appointment, having been hailed as ‘excellent’ by Pep Guardiola in the past and proving his mettle at top clubs.

Granted, his time at PSG proved to be uninspiring but he guided an under-funded Spurs side to the 2019 Champions League final and became a hugely popular figure there during a five-year stay.

Pochettino’s impressive spell at Southampton also shouldn’t be forgotten, when he guided them to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League in 2013/14, so he has more than proven himself in England.
