Aston Villa: Gregg Evans criticises Boubacar Kamara v Leicester - Aston Villa News

Aston Villa correspondent Gregg Evans criticised midfielder Boubacar Kamara for his error which led to a Leicester City goal on Saturday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Missed opportunity

Unai Emery’s side were on the wrong end of a six-goal scoreline on Saturday, missing the chance to break into the top half of the Premier League in the process.

Villa were in front twice in the first half but ended up going in at the interval 3-2 down after some sloppy defending. Dennis Praet sealed the win for the visitors in the second half, with Villa failing to climb above both Liverpool and Chelsea into ninth.

The Latest: Kamara criticised

Evans took to Twitter to relay live updates and wasn’t impressed with Kamara for James Maddison’s equaliser.

After the Frenchman was dispossessed in a dangerous area, The Athletic reporter tweeted: “Terrible mistake from Kamara trying to play in his own box. Dispossessed by Dewsbury-Hall and then Maddison has an easy finish. Very silly play.”

The Verdict: Afternoon to forget

Like a number of other Villa players, Kamara endured an afternoon to forget on Saturday.

The summer signing lined out alongside Douglas Luiz in a 4-4-2 system, with the Brazilian comfortably outperforming his midfield colleague, as per SofaScore.

Kamara lost the ball on 11 occasions, lost 50% of his ground duels and made three fouls in his 82 minutes on the pitch. He was dribbled past twice and made the error which led to Maddison’s goal, ending up as Villa’s joint-third worst outfield starter with a 6.2/10 rating.

Considering that his season’s average is 6.85, it was indeed a well below-par display from the usually reliable 23-year-old.
