It is not the first time the Sky Blues have found themselves at odds with football’s governing bodies because of financial issues, with UEFA initially banning them from the Champions League a little under three years ago, before it was overturned by the court of arbitration for sport.

“But at this moment what we do know is Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League this morning for breaching numerous financial fair play rules.”

With Pep Guardiola‘s side already struggling to keep the pace with Arsenal in the Premier League title race, now sitting five points behind the Gunners with one extra game played, this news will come as an unwanted distraction for the City boss.
Not only that, but Ziegler also reports that a ‘range of sanctions’ are possible, including points deductions if the breaches are proven, while he also adds that expulsion from the league could even be a possibility.
At this stage, it is unclear whether those potential punishments could come into play this season, but it is sure to be a concerning time for everyone at Manchester City, and we now await what their course of action is going to be.
