Bristol City Record Transfers

The Robins are not commonly associated with splashing out big on transfers; however, this changed at the start of this current 2019-20 season. Bristol City spent almost £30m on just six players in the summer transfer window, and this included their record transfer arrival fee for Czech Republic centre-back Tomas Kalas who signed from Chelsea after a loan spell at the club.

The 27-year-old had only made two appearances for Chelsea, and was loaned out multiple times around Europe, before spending the 2018-19 season at Ashton Gate. Kalas was brought in for just over £8m, and this was closely followed by Monaco B youngster, Han-Noah Massengo who arrived for £7.20m.

This was a high-risk signing for sure, though the 18-year-old provided to be good competition for the central midfield role in the squad. The 29-year-old Burnley centre-forward Nahki Wells signed for the Robins last summer also for over £4m, whereas Chelsea Premier League 2 Starlets, Kasey Palmer and Jay Dasilva joined for a combined fee of around £5.5m.

Very recently, Bristol City started to make a name for themselves as a club for receiving high transfer fees from smaller Premier League clubs. The Robins highest and most recent sale was Adam Webster, who was sold to Brighton and Hove Albion at the start of the 2019-20 season for almost £20m.

Along with this massive sum, left-back, Lloyd Kelly was sold to Bournemouth for over £13m, and Josh Brownhill made his move to Burnley for £9m. This business was iconic for a smaller-scale club like Bristol City, who earnt around £40m for just three players to help fund their summer spending spree.

Until the start of this season, the Robins highest fee received from a club was £11.52m for centre-forward Jonathan Kodija, who left to join former Premier League side Aston Villa in 2016-17.

Famous Bristol City Transfers

One footballer which people completely forgot played for the Robins, was Yannick Bolasie who joined for just £90Th back in 2011. The young winger only lasted one season before making his move to Premier League side Crystal Palace, where he went on to earn a £26m transfer fee to Everton after just four seasons.

Famously, star striker Andy Cole, was sold by Bristol City to Newcastle United back in 1993, for just £2.43. This was over £1m that the Robins had originally paid for the soon to be England international.
