Accrington Stanley Record Transfers
Accrington Stanley are the lowest spending League One club and one of the lowest spending clubs in the English Football League, having only spent £117k throughout their entire history.
The fee comes from one man who was brought in from rival League One side Swansea back in 2008. Ian Craney arrived from the Swans at the age of 25 for just over £100k, making him the clubs record signing and the only player in history they have spent money on, with the rest arriving on free transfers. The English attacking midfielder did not even have a market value at the time, and the Liverpudlian initially joined on loan to Stanley the season before putting pen to paper.
This was Craney’s second spell at the club, having scored an impressive 28 goals in 94 games for Stanley between 2004-07. He was sold to Swansea after this spell for just over £200Th, and then returned in 2007 playing just 36 times, and scoring 9 times before making his move to Huddersfield Town just after one season.
After two seasons away from Stanley, Craney made his return for free in 2010 to make it his fifth spell (including loans) at the club before departing to Rochdale for free in 2012. All in all, it can be seen as money well spent from the League One club, and Craney was part of the Conference National title-winning side which saw the club return to the Football League in 2006 for the first time since 1962.
As for record transfer departures, Accrington Stanley have sold just eight players in return for a transfer fee. The clubs first ever sale came all the way back in 1996-97 when young English centre-forward Brett Ormerod joined Blackpool for just £68k. Their next two sales came in 2007 when duo Ian Craney and Gary Roberts notably departed Stanley for just over £200k each.
Roberts record fee was broken by Bobby Grant who was sold for just over £300k to Scunthorpe United in 2010-11, and topped by Matty Pearson in 2017-18 as the centre-back left for Championship side Barnsley for half a million pounds.
Famous Accrington Stanley Transfers
Accrington Stanley’s most notable transfer was the sale of star striker Kayden Jackson who left the club just after one season, joining Championship side Ipswich Town.
Jackson left in 2018 for a club-record fee of £1.62m which was massive for the newly promoted League One side, and they hope to reinvest some of this money into new transfers in the coming seasons – stay up to date with more of the latest Accrington Stanley transfer rumours from EFL League One here!
