Forest Green Rovers Record Transfers
Just as is the case with the majority of the teams in League Two’s current roster, Forest Green Rovers are surely not among the biggest spenders out there. As a matter of fact, many of their biggest and even most famous arrivals in recent years have indeed been free agents.
Still, that’s not necessarily a bad thing at all, is it? The Green Devils have been able to find and scoop up players released by their teams or players who failed or maybe even refused to sign extensions with their former outfits, and that has proven to be a good tactic for them in the transfer market.
However, their most expensive arrival ever is still that of Adrian Randall who joined Forest Green Rovers at the beginning of the new Millenium for a reported sum of £25,000. When it comes to the aforementioned free agents and transfers for undisclosed fees, the most valuable ones are Luke Jones who arrived from Mansfield Town in 2010/11 and also the most recent one – Matt Mills for his transfer from Pune City in 2019/20.
The situation with exits is at least more straightforward if nothing else. The Green Devils have a couple of lucrative departures on their books and none as big as Ethan Pinnock’s £513,000 move to Barnsley FC.
Pinnock is then closely followed by Christian Doidge’s £252,000 transfer to Hibernian FC in the 2019/20 season while Stuart Fleetwood’s £90,000 exit to Charlton Athletic in 2009/10 sits in third place on the list of the most expensive departures from the club.
Famous Forest Green Rovers Transfers
Needless to say, it is quite tough to form the list of the most famous deals to ever go through at Forest Green Rovers since most of the exact price tags are simply not available. Still, one way or the other, both in terms of value and status, rarely anyone can rival Randall and his arrival in 1999.
He ended up recording over 100 appearances for the club too, proving to be a great investment, worth the sum the Green Army forked out for him back in the day. Of course, Jones is still the most valuable free player to arrive at Forest Green Rovers but then again, he didn’t really stay for long enough to really rise in status, leaving only a season after his arrival.
We will also have to wait and see what the future holds for one of the other big arrivals, Mills, who is still at the club but doesn’t have a long-term contract on the books just yet. Of course, we should also mention some of the big exits as well – Pinnock and Doidge made the cub quite a big profit with their respective moves in 2017/18 and 2019/20 and they remain Forest Green Rovers’ top two outgoing transfers to date.
