Portsmouth: Jake Doyle-Hayes emerges as potential new signing - League One News

Portsmouth have joined the race to sign midfielder Jake Doyle-Hayes on a free transfer after he left Premier League side Aston Villa.

Pompey manager Kenny Jackett has seen his side have a difficult start to the new League One season and has struggled to bring in new faces during the transfer window, with only three permanent signings and less than £250,000 spent.

With the transfer window still open, Jackett is now being linked with a move for Doyle-Hayes.

The 21-year-old, who is a product of the Villans’ youth system, left the Premier League side at the end of his contract earlier this summer and Football Insider claim that a whole host of clubs are now keen on him, with Hull City, Blackpool, Doncaster Rovers and MK Dons also reportedly battling for his signature.

Doyle-Hayes featured three times for Villa’s first team whilst also gaining experience out on loan with Cambridge United and Cheltenham Town.

At this rate, any new signings will likely be welcome for Portsmouth and Jackett, who could come under pressure after such a poor start to the season.

Doyle-Hayes has previous in the lower leagues of English football, with 38 League Two appearances, but some Pompey fans may be hoping that a bigger or more experienced name will arrive given their slow start to the campaign.

Portsmouth fans, would Doyle-Hayes be a decent addition to Jackett’s squad? Have your say by commenting below!
